Fasting Blood Glucose

Fasting for 6–8 hours is required. Only water is permitted during the fasting period.

Postprandial Blood Glucose (2 Hours After Meal)

The two hours are calculated from the start of the meal, and the meal must be completed within the first 10 minutes of this period. No food is allowed during the two hours; only water and prescribed medication (if any) are permitted. Please arrive at the laboratory at least 15 minutes before the end of the two hours.

Blood Glucose Curve

The patient should arrive at the laboratory fasting. An initial blood sample is taken, after which the patient consumes a glucose dose provided by the laboratory, calculated according to the patient’s weight. Subsequent blood samples are collected at 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours after consuming the glucose dose. No food or drinks are allowed during the test period; only water and prescribed medication are permitted.

Blood Lipid Profile

Fasting for at least 12–14 hours is required. Only water is allowed during the fasting period.

Semen Analysis

Abstain from sexual intercourse or ejaculation for 3–4 consecutive days. It is preferable to provide the sample at the laboratory, ensuring that the initial portion of the semen is collected in the designated container.

Prostate Test or Penile Swab

This test requires a prior appointment. The patient should refrain from urinating for at least one hour before the test. It is also preferable to avoid taking antibiotics for no less than 48 hours prior to the procedure.

Gynecological Swab

This test requires a prior appointment. Abstain from sexual intercourse for two days before the test, and avoid vaginal douching on the day of the procedure. It is also preferable to refrain from taking antibiotics for at least 48 hours prior to the test.

Urine Culture

Wash hands and genital area with water. Then disinfect the urinary opening using alcohol for men, or Dettol/Savlon for women. Rinse again with water only to remove the disinfectant. Discard the first portion of urine in the toilet, then collect the remaining sample in the sterile container provided by the laboratory. It is preferable to avoid taking antibiotics for at least 48 hours prior to the test.

Urine Pregnancy Test

The first morning urine sample is preferred, with no fluid intake on the evening prior to the test. If the result is negative, it is recommended to perform a blood pregnancy test, as it is more sensitive.

24-Hour Urine Collection

Upon waking, the first urine is voided into the toilet and the time is recorded. After that, all urine passed over the next 24 hours is collected in the designated container until the same time the following day. The sample should be kept refrigerated and sent to the laboratory as soon as possible.

Sputum Collection for Three Consecutive Days

The first sample should be collected in the morning for three consecutive days. Each sample must be sent separately to the laboratory on the same day of collection. Steam inhalation may be used to help produce the sample. It is essential that the specimen is sputum, not saliva.

Stool Culture

Avoid taking antibiotics for at least 48 hours prior to the test. For children, the laboratory does not accept samples collected from diapers.

Fecal Occult Blood Test

The patient should avoid the following for 48 hours prior to the test: meat, radish, anti-rheumatic medications, aspirin, and any medications containing vitamin C, iron, or corticosteroids.

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (Asthma – Epilepsy – Cardiac Medications)

The medication should be taken regularly for at least five days prior to the test. The patient must not experience vomiting or diarrhea for at least 48 hours before the analysis.

G6PD Deficiency Test (Favism Anemia)

The test should not be performed after a recent blood transfusion or during an acute hemolytic episode.

VMA

The urine must be collected over 24 hours in a special container provided by the laboratory. The patient should avoid consuming tea, nuts, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, prunes, pineapple, eggplant, and tomatoes for at least 48 hours prior to the test.
